Dr. Neil Fleshner MD, MPH, FRCSC
Dr. Neil Fleshner is Head of the Division of Urology at the University Health Network (incorporating Princess Margaret Hospital) and Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Aside from surgical practice, Dr. Fleshner conducts research on urologic cancer prevention with an emphasis on prostate cancer. Dr. Fleshner is certified in both urology and epidemiology. He earned his MPH degree from the School of Public Health at Columbia University and completed his oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His current projects include two randomized trials of nutritional intervention in prostate cancer as well as laboratory work assessing oxidative biomarkers and cell cycle regulation in prostate cancer cells exposed to micronutrients. Dr. Fleshner is an avid music lover and father of three. He has authored over 80 scientific papers.
Dr. David A. Hanley , MD FRCSC

Dr. Hanley obtained his MD at the University of Toronto, and FRCPC in Internal Medicine with subspecialty training in Endocrinology and Metabolism, at Foothills Hospital and The University of Calgary. He completed a 3-year Medical Research Council of Canada Fellowship studying the endocrinology of calcium metabolism in the laboratory of Dr. Louis M. Sherwood at Michael Reese Medical Centre (then affiliated with the Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago).
At present, Dr. Hanley is a Professor in the Department of Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Oncology. He was Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism from 1993 to 2004 and is currently the Medical Director of the Foothills Osteoporosis Centre in the Calgary Health Region.
Dr. Hanley's research interests and publications have been in the areas of calcium regulation of Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) secretion, and normal and abnormal skeletal metabolism. He has been a co-investigator in a number of major clinical trials of osteoporosis therapies, and he is the Calgary centre director for the Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study (CaMOS). His publications include over 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and approximately 65 reviews, chapters and non-peer-reviewed papers.
Dr. Hanley is a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of Osteoporosis Canada, and was its Chairperson from 1991 - 1995. During this time, he chaired three national consensus conferences on osteoporosis, and co-chaired the publication of Osteoporosis Canada's first Clinical Practice Guidelines (1996). In 2003, Dr. Hanley was the first recipient of Osteoporosis Canada's "Volunteer of Distinction" Award. In 2005, Dr. Hanley was honoured to receive the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism's Robert Volpé Distinguished Service Award, recognizing contributions to education, research and the endocrinology community in Canada.
Dr. Robert L. Reid MD

Dr. Reid is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chair of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Queen's University. Following a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at the University of California San Diego, he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Queen's University. Dr. Reid is active in clinical research with over 150 peer reviewed publications, invited reviews, and book chapters in the areas of reproductive neuroendocrinology, menopause, menstrual -related mood disorders and photodynamic therapy. For fifteen years, Dr. Reid has taught a national 'Introduction to Research' course for residents and junior faculty in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Reid is a Past President of both the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS) and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada (SOGC). In 2003, Dr. Reid won the President's Award of SOGC and in 2005 he was the recipient of the CFAS Award of Excellence for his contributions to academic and clinical practice in the area of reproductive health.
In 1988, on behalf of these organizations Dr. Reid chaired the first Canadian report entitled "Ethical Considerations of the New Reproductive Technologies". In 2005, Dr. Reid chaired a national 'Reproductive Aging' CHE program on behalf of CFAS. Dr. Reid co-chairs Canada's only Contraception Fellowship for Ob/Gyn graduates. Between 2000-2004, he chaired the SOGC's Contraception Awareness Program on sexual and reproductive health. In 2005 this program won the United Nations World Summit Award for having developed one of the top five e-health websites in the world [sexualityandu.ca/ (masexualite.ca)]
Dr. Peter Thomson, BSc(Pharm), PharmD

Dr. Peter Thomson is the Clinical Pharmacist for Internal Medicine at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg Manitoba. Dr. Thomson obtained his Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia in 1986 and his Doctor of Pharmacy from Wayne State University in 1990. His areas of expertise are in gastroenterology and coagulation.
Dr. Thomson is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Manitoba. In the past year he has been a guest lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba and the Doctor of Pharmacy Programs at both the University of Toronto and University of Florida.
Dr. Thomson has had a particular interest in evaluating gaps in care that arise with medications in the hospital setting. This has led him to explore a number of diverse projects including anticoagulation (heparin) management in acute coronary syndromes, management of heparin induced thrombocytopenia and evaluation of transdermal fentanyl initialization in acute care.
He has been an active member of pharmacy organizations since arriving in Manitoba in 1997. For five years he served on the executive of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, Manitoba Branch (MPhA Liaison) and the council of the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association (CSHP Liaison). He continues to serve the MPhA as the approved representative on the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Medicine Standards committee.
Dr. Luc Valiquette, MD, FRCS

Dr. Luc Valiquette is currently a Urologic Surgery Specialist at le Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM). Dr. Valiquette did his urology training at l'Université de Montréal (U de M) from 1979 to 1983. After his residency, he did a Fellowship in Urodynamics in Nantes (France) in 1984 and one in Uroprosthetic Surgery and endourology in Houston (USA) in 1985. Dr. Valiquette came back to St- Luc Hospital from CHUM in 1985 and he is now Chief of urology at this institution. His areas of expertise are benign prostatic hyperplasia, incontinence and voiding dysfunction, erectile dysfunction and stone surgery.
Dr. Valiquette is Full Professor of Surgery (urology) in the Department of Surgery at U de M. He teaches at both pre- and post-graduate levels and just stepped down as Director of the Urology Training Program at U de M. He is a member of the Accreditation Committee of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, and as a member of this committee, participates in surveys of Canadian teaching programs.
He has been involved in numerous clinical research studies, many of which relate to the pharmacological and surgical treatment of erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, urinary lithiasis, urine infections and benign prostatic hypertrophy. He is a member of many scientific societies and has over 200 scientific papers, summaries, and book chapters to his credit. He is presently Director of Clinical Research at CHUM.
Dr. Valiquette is a member of many advisory boards for pharmaceutical companies and for non-profit organizations. He has been president of the Quebec Urological Association and is now president elect of the Canadian Urological Association. He is also Chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee and member of the Board of the Société Internationale d'Urologie.
